Nigerian youth will determine the outcome of the 2023 elections – Kukah

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto has said the outcome of the 2023 general elections will be determined by the youth who make up 60% of Nigeria’s population.

Kukah, who said this yesterday as a guest on Channels TV’s political and current affairs show, Politics Today, charged young people to seize the moment by taking charge of changing the country.

The cleric said the 2023 election is a time for young people, who he says are better informed and more patriotic than those who govern them.

He said, “I mean, this election, whether we like it or not, is going to be determined by the young people of Nigeria, who are better informed, far more patriotic than those who govern them, who love this country more than those who govern them, and who understand where the rest of the world is far better than those who govern them. So guess what, if you’re young, and you are, if you’re young, there’s a job for you to change this country.

“And the wonderful part of the story is that we all say that young people make up about 60% of the population of Nigeria. It’s their time. They have the capacity, they have the capacity.

He said young people should seize the opportunity before the elections.

The eminent cleric lamented this dubious use of ethnicity and regionalism by criminals who are only interested in themselves and their children.

“So the challenge for young people is to break out of the silos that have held us back. We must break down these walls of dubious ethnicity and regionalism, break down these walls erected by criminals who have no interest in their future, who only have an interest in their future and that of their children. And let’s create a wonderland from Sokoto to Akwa Ibom,” he said.
