EU agriculture stakeholders invited to the 2022 Southeast Asia trade delegation
The Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission invites companies and organizations from its Member States to participate in a trade delegation to Singapore and Vietnam, which will take place from March 27 to April 2, 2022 (if conditions of Covid-19 allow).
European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski will lead the delegation, accompanied by a delegation of senior representatives of European companies / producer organizations in the agri-food sector. This visit will combine official meetings of Commissioner Wojciechowski with his relevant government counterparts and promotional activities in which the business delegation will participate. The latter may include seminars on local market characteristics and consumer trends, retail and site tours; networking opportunities; visit to the FHA show in Singapore.
High-level representatives of producer organizations and individual businesses are invited to participate. Participants are expected to attend the entire program. Only one person per company / organization will officially participate in the trade delegation.
The Swedish Board of Agriculture describes it as “a good opportunity to network in South East Asia for business opportunities in the food and drink sector”.
“Southeast Asia is an interesting market from an export point of view. The region is a major importer of agricultural and food products and is characterized by continued growth in GDP and a growing population. The EU’s free trade agreement also provides for duty-free treatment for all agri-food products and beer exported to Singapore. Likewise, the EU’s free trade agreement with Vietnam means that tariffs on most products will gradually be reduced to zero, ”says Susanna Axelsson, Trade Policy Investigator.
The Swedish Council of Agriculture oversees an EU committee on behalf of Sweden, where funds are distributed annually to industry and interest organizations to carry out marketing campaigns. Part of the annual budget is spent on events such as trade delegations in which businesses and organizations from agriculture and food production are invited to participate.
Participants cover their travel and accommodation costs. Other representatives may accompany the group but may be refused participation in certain events if the size of the group needs to be limited.
Interested organizations / companies are invited to complete the online application form before November 30, 2021. Participation must be confirmed by December 15.
