Gardens Styles

. . . "We're not gardeners, we both work full time and we want to be sailing or hiking on weekends. But we want our garden to look great and, oh, with lots of seasonal color and interest throughout the year." . . .

Low maintenance and "something happening all year" are the features most often requested in our initial client interviews.

A wealth of plant material thrives in the Puget Sound area. Rodda and Sons designers are experts at picking the right plants for the right places (sun or shade, wet soil or dry, seashore, or inland) choosing plant combinations that provide interesting textures and colors, that won't overgrow their spots and won't need a lot of fussing and pruning.

Unless, of course, you want to fuss and prune. Many people do enjoy gardening as relaxation and a way to get in touch with their roots. Rodda and Sons enjoys working with gardeners who want help with the heavy, physical work and guidance in arranging the plantings. As designers, we're sensitive to the style of your house and the feeling you want to achieve, be it formal or informal or perhaps reflecting the plants and colors of a part of the world you love.

Drought tolerant plantings are high on the list for many clients. Most new plantings will need regular watering the first 2 years after they are planted to get their root systems established. There are different degrees of drought tolerance, but most truly drought tolerant plantings, once established, do well with little or no summer water.

Versatility of Styles

We design and build formal rose, traditional, informal, beachside, shade, and bog gardens.  If you have a particular style in mind and do not see it mentioned, ask us - just because it is not listed doesn't mean we do not have the style in our scope of expertise.

"We just wanted to say, "Thank you for making a beautiful garden". Everybody loves it; mailman and neighbors... David from Tukwila Roofing Co. was here and complimented on our yard, and asked us which landscaping company did the work. We gave your name. Then he told us how excellent was the work you did for him."
